I am married to the most wonderful woman in the world and have two beautiful daughters. I have worked as an electronic assembler, grill cook, shipper, electronic technician, hardware engineer, software engineer, professional photographer and web developer. In the past I let my work define who I am, but I learned--better late than never--that that is only how I earn a living; it is not my life. I have definite beliefs about who we are and how we came to be here, but they must be compatible with my scientific background. Trained most of my life in science and engineering, I find utterly repugnant any belief system that requires me to turn off any part of my brain, or that compels me to impose my beliefs upon others. I am in great awe of a creator who could conceive of the myriad equations that set the universe in motion, kicked it off, and let it take its course. A magician, not so much. Parlor tricks are fun, but they are, after all, illusions and nothing more. The goal of science is and has always been a search for the truth. While this is not to say that there are no scientists who put their own personal aggrandizement ahead of the truth--they are human and imperfect and corruptible after all--but the method itself is sound. Develop a hypothesis, gather evidence; if the evidence matches the predictions of the hypothesis, the hypothesis is accepted. If, later, additional evidence arises that disproves the hypothesis, it is discarded. The notion of having an irrefutable foregone conclusion and adapting the facts to match it is absurd. Call it what you want, but don't teach it to my children as science.
