10 Reasons Why Thumbelina Was Maybe Too Grown Up For Children

Inappropriate and just straight confusing moments in one of my favorite childhood animated films, Don Bluth's "Thumbelina."

Am I the only one frightened by the possibility that she could be stomped on at any given moment? Mom doesn't seem too concerned.

Falling in love with Cornelius....immediately

Although he is the first small person she has encountered, this is a problem even for normal sized human beings #dontjudge

Mrs. Toad forcing Thumbelina to work for her

Am I the only one who thinks this has indentured servant/sexual undertones? And working for a mother? The shame. I am unsure if she is more adamant to marry off her most unsightly child, or to make money off of Thumbelina's pipes.

Grundel's obsession with Thumbelina

"Out of her league" doesn't even begin to cut it. Can't.

Berkeley Beetle

'Nuff said. Not certain if Gilbert Goddfreid's voice is what puts me over the edge for this.

Beetle Ballroom Dance

Again, not much to have to explain here in regards to sheer inappropriate nature. Especially once she is stripped down to her "human" undergarments. And the subsequent spank the beetle lays on her. Gross.

Ms. Fieldmouse's advice

Referencing two star-crossed and suicidal lovers in order to convince Thumbelina to marry for money instead of love? Repulsive. And ballsy coming from a stranger, if you ask me. Never understood why Ms. Fieldmouse wouldn't take her own advice. Leave the poor girl out of it.

Head to toe, and also because he is a close-talker on account of his poor sight. Doesn't mean he looks any less creepy when "staring" at her.

So she fell for the line, eh? Feminists everywhere, including myself, cringe. She is not even pretending to be enjoying herself.

Following her heart (even though the wedding was already paid for)

Apparently we teach this to girls at a very young age. But all in the name of her love for Cornelius? I am all for it!
