This Little Boy Lost His Penguin Balloon But It Sent Him Postcards From Around The World

Little Logan, 3, was upset when his penguin balloon, "Pengy", flew away. But thanks to the kindness of people on Facebook, the penguin sent him scores of cards from around the world.

Earlier this month, Logan, 3, went to the West Midland Safari Park with his family and had a great time.

But sadly, later that day he lost his penguin balloon and was distraught. His auntie, Lavania Oluban, made this appeal on Facebook.

Oluban told BuzzFeed News: "I took my nephews and sister out to the West Midland Safari Park for a treat, and after a brilliant day we bought my nephew a fabulous penguin balloon (he has a penguin soft toy at home called Pengy).

"Anyway, after losing him [the balloon] when we opened the car door it took quite a while to convince Logan that Pengy was going travelling. I put up a Facebook post to ask some friends and family who are off on their holidays to send postcards from Pengy to Logan about his travelling adventures."

But would friends and family on Facebook step up to the task?

Indeed they would. Within weeks Logan got cards from "Pengy" from all over Europe and North America sent to his home in Birmingham, updating him on the elusive bird's adventures.

Cards arrived from London, where Pengy had sardine sandwiches with the Queen, and Colorado, where he made friends with a big elk called Thomas.

One arrived from the Isle of Cumbrae in Scotland (and Pengy said sorry for flying away).

Cards arrived from Devon and Dublin too.

In total there were about 30 cards, including ones from New York City, Maryland, Spain and the Isle of Wight.

Lavania said that a sad balloon-related incident has now been turned into a happy one.

"He absolutely loves the stories and all of the pictures on the postcards too, and asks a lot of questions about all the places, and has pointed them out on to his globe (with help)," she said.

"His grandma has turned it into an educational game and has bought a map which she's going to pin all the places on to. People have been really creative with the adventures, inventing new friends, and so it's been really good fun!"

    Happy travels, Pengy.
