5 Things Young Professionals Would Understand

You just got out of college. Congratulations... and welcome to hell that is also called the 'real life.'

You just got out of college. Congratulations... and welcome to hell that is also called the 'real life.'

One moment you were just a student, lying to your mom about a school project that needs to be financed, but actually, you just need money for your regular Friday night out. Booze, parties, road trips... you surely had enough of those during your college years but now, you are part of the working population. You are now a legitimate income tax payer. You are now a young professional (or a 'yuppie' if that's what you want to call yourself).

So here are the five things that only us, yuppies, can understand.

    1. Mom was right: money does not grow on trees.

How many times have you cursed your boss because of that crappy job you have that does not even pay well? You suddenly realize that it was easier to ask for money when you were in college.

Then on pay day, you spend like the richest man on earth.

    2. Ideal job does not exist.

Unless you are born as a hotel heiress or something, you are bound to be a slave to corporations and bosses that you do not like.

Mom, where are you when I need you the most?

So you now rent your own house. Great. But apparently, using a front load washing machine is not as easy as it sounds. It is not simply putting all your clothes inside that mysterious hole and getting all of them dry and clean after few minutes. A front load washing machine, seriously? They never taught us yuppies how to use that in college!

Thank God there are laundry services.

Seriously. You need to learn how to use that front load washing machine.

    4. Canned goods and ready-to-eat foods are not as bad as it sounds, especially when you are busy.

What health-conscious? Who cares about how much sodium and fats are in that wonderful cylindrical container with food inside? Seriously, it's not that bad especially when you get home tired from work, unable to cook food for yourself.

But if you have some time, an electric oven might come in handy. How about a spam sandwich heated in your electric oven? After all, it's nice to eat something that is still hot. You know you have to invest in an electric oven.

    5. Life was way better when you were a student.

Party every night? You suddenly realize that life was way better back in college than what it is now. You suddenly miss your friends who are all probably busy with their own lives. You want to go back to school, not to study but to feel alive again and live carelessly. Suddenly, everything has to be serious now. You start planning about the life ahead. You start planning about the future.

But whatever it is, you know that being a young professional means being more serious about life. But that does not mean you cannot be happy. You can still enjoy even if you're a corporate slave. After all, you are still young. And wild. And free.
