In our day and age, society presses a large influence over the part individuals play in order to fit in with conventional, gendered standards whether it is conforming to the behavioral cues dubbed normal for the respected gender or looking a certain way when it comes to matters of physical fitness. I am going to expand further into the expectations placed on both male and females to fit the ideal body type, with a special focus on women refusing to adhere to society's take on what it is to be fit in a feminine way. This article will explore the way women are straying away from the norm and participating in powerlifting alongside men while also demonstrating the social implications of these actions. It will recognize the power in agency for women and demonstrate the expectations we, as a society, place on both men and women. So, what is deemed physically fit and aesthetically acceptable for women? Where does society's outlook on ideal and gendered body type stem from?
