Science had tried its best to explain them logically, but has failed many a time. Sometimes there are no rational explanations for incidents happening at certain places. Well, what do you think? 1. Bhangarh Fort - Alwar, Rajasthan

Bhangarh definitely tops the list here. And if you are looking for a tale that could be stronger than fiction, then here you go. The ghost town of Bhangarh in Ajabgarh, Alwar of Rajasthan is one of the spookiest places in the country.

The government bans visit to this place after sunset, so make sure you visit and leave the place while the sun is all in its glory. Because things take a darker turn when darkness falls. Yes, just like any other horror story in movies, this story is all about princesses and black magic.

The story goes that there was once a magician who fell in love with a princess and she rejected him. In order to make her come to him, the magician decided to cast a dark spell on her. The princess heard of this and got him killed. Unfortunately, the magician cursed the palace and the princess before dying.

Eventually, the princess also died and the palace was doomed. It has stayed empty ever since, with locals vouching for paranormal activities at night. The Archeological Society of India has put a board at the gates of this 17th-century fort banning entry after sunset.

2. Kuldhara Village, Rajasthan

There is no denying the terror, you might have to endure when you visit Kuldhara Village on the outskirts of Jaisalmer district in Rajasthan. Once you enter the premises, you can hear the sounds of children playing, anklets of running women and sometimes even a woman sobbing.

Some people also reported that unseen entities threw stones at them. This place also has an interesting story. The village of Kuldhara dates back to 13th century. It was self-contained and was inhabited by the learned the Paliwal Brahmins for seven generations.

The legend has it that the minister of state became attracted to the beautiful daughter of the village chief. The minister was known for his vile and vicious ways and a loyal friend informed the father of the girl of the minister’s intentions. The entire village gathered their belongings and left the village and as they left, they cursed the village. And when they left, the 83 adjoining villages also disappeared.

Anyone who trespassed the village might have to bear the brunt of it, and may not get out alive. This is truly scary because several skeletons had been found here. The mystery of these skeletons still remains to be cleared. And nobody knows that happened to those 84 villages till date.

3. The Three Kings Church, Goa

A tale of treachery and debauchery; that's what the Three Kings Church in Goa is all about. It is believed that many years ago, three Portuguese kings ruled the areas nearby and they constantly fought with one another to gain an upper hand on a particular property and its church.

Fed up of this constant fighting, one of the kings called the other two to resolve the issue. He gave them poison-laden lunch in the church and killed them. But his bad deed caught up to him and he committed suicide. Finally, all three kings were buried at the church. It is believed that the spirits of these kings roam the church after dark.

4. Ramoji Film City, Hyderabad

Ramoji Film City, the most popular feature film shooting location has a dark secret to it. Women have felt someone tearing their clothes off, they have heard knocking on washroom doors even when the doors were locked from outside, light boys were pushed from heights and suffered grievous injuries and so on.

Many attribute these strange happenings to the war that were once fought there. The film city is located on the site where Nizams fought and died.

5. Valmiki Nagar, Chennai

Another clichéd scary place, traumatic and haunting, for people who have had the misfortune to come too close to it. The exact location of the house is -Apartment number F-2 on 3, Seward Road, Chennai. All throughout the day, you can hear the sobbing of a girl and slamming of doors.

It is believed that the daughter of the owner of the house committed suicide here 10 years ago and the house has been haunted ever since. A few years ago, in two separate instances, people tried to enter the premises with view to investigating the house,but the spirit of the girl possessed them. It shows you’ve got to let sleeping spirits lie, what do you think?

But it would be hard to let this girl go because she expects visitors in the night and opens the door for them. And you might just be invited inside if you wander too near the house… at night!

6. GP Block of Meerut

GP Block of Meerut in Uttar Pradesh has plenty of paranormal activity going on regularly within its mysterious walls, especially, one house in particular. Witnesses have seen a girl dressed in red disappearing into the night and four men sitting around a candle and enjoying their drinks. Plenty of strange sightings and happenings have also been reported.

7. The Mysterious Waters of Agrasen Ki Baoli, Delhi

The heart of Delhi hides a sinister secret within itself. Agrasen ki Baoli is an incredible structure built in the 14th century by Maharaja Agrasen, but what it does to people is not beautiful at all.

Once upon a time, its interiors were filled with black waters that lure people to come within and drown themselves. The black water was asking people to sacrifice themselves by hypnotizing them and making them jump into the water. Now this building is completely dry, but strange happenings have been reported.

8. The Lakkidi Gateway in Wayanad, Kerala

The Lakkidi Gateway along the Thamarassery Ghat pass(one of the famous tourist places in Wayanad) is known for two things - the scenic winding roads and the ghost that haunts it. Yes, you have a ghost here as well, the ghost of a forest dweller, an adivasi. It is said that the British during their colonial rule in India wanted to build a road that connected Thamarassery Ghat along with the main parts of the state.

Try as they might, they couldn’t find a path that would help them travel across the Ghat. That’s when they observed a few of the adivasis making their way through the ghat area. The British engineer sought the help of Karinthandan, one of the forest dwellers and he showed them the right path.

Once the roads were built and completed, the British engineer gifted the adivasi by ending his life. The engineer wanted to bask in the glory of finding the path all by himself. But the wronged soul had other plans and it began to haunt the roads causing accidents and other untoward incidents.

Eventually, a priest had to come in for exorcism, and the spirit of the adivasi was contained in a chain and tied to a tree. People still believes that his spirit remains in the area, but has been appeased. It is said that the chain tied to the tree grew along with it.

9. The Brijraj Bhavan Palace in Kota, Rajastan

Major Burton who was shot here along with his sons during the Revolt of 1857 haunts the Brij Raj Bhavan Palace. Thankfully, the ghost doesn't harm anyone, but if you are a security guard and you happen to doze off on your watch, then you are bound to be slapped on the face by, who else? - the ghost of Major Burton, of course.

10. Bonacaud Bungalow in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala

The Bonacaud region of Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala is a place of absolute beauty, and the bungalow was the epitome of magnificence once upon a time, with 2512 acres of pure nature, enticing waterfalls, mesmerizing hills and valleys. Until about 135 years ago, the bungalow housed a British family with young children.

It is not clear what really happened there, but the children were murdered in a tragedy. The incident was too much to bear for the family and the couple left the Bungalow for good and went back to their home country.

The Bungalow is totally vandalized now, but cries of children along with shattering of glass and screaming can still be heard. Bonacaud is 40 kilometers away from Thiruvananthapuram city.

11. Feroz Shah Kotla, Delhi

You must have heard of Feroz Shah Kotla, the fort that was built by Feroz Shah Tughlaq in 1354. The fort is now ruined and empty, and Djinns inhabit it. Locals come here to appease the Djinns with grains and milk and get personal favors done.

12. Bengal Swamps

The ghosts of the Bengal swamps are of two minds. Sometimes they lead the fishermen out of danger zone and sometimes they confuse them by drawing them to drowning. But, one thing is for sure, fishermen in the area are attracted by unexplainable ghost lights.

Whether these lights are formed by a combination of some gases or not, remains to be seen. Locals believe that these are lights are displayed by the ghosts of the fishermen who died fishing in the area.

13. Bengaluru International Airport Limited, Bengalurru

Bengaluru has its share of hauntings. People report seeing a headless woman standing near the elevator of the international airport and near the parking bays. A pilot reports having seen a ghost, the typical white-sari woman with loose hair and he even sent a ground staff to help her.

The woman vanished when the ground staff reached her and this shocked the daylights out of him. Nobody knows how this ghost came by at the airport, so it is still a mystery.

It is time to bid adieu, and we still have lots of haunted places uncovered. In fact, every village in India has a house, a tree or a well that is "haunted". Some are facts and some are just fantasies, with not a shred of truth in them, but falsely spread to keep away trespassers.
