12 Reason Why Weeaboos Are The Worst

If you think you don't know what a weeaboo is, you definitely do and you know that they are quite annoying.

According to Urban Dictionary, a weeaboo (yes, pronounced like it sounds) can be defined as: "a non japanese person who basically denounces their own culture and calls themselves japanese; they try to learn japanese through the anime they watch and usually end up pronouncing it wrong and looking like a complete idiot."

Not an all encompassing definition, but it's almost a guarantee that each and every one of us has encountered or known some guy or girl that takes their Naruto or Inuyasha obsession a bit too far and beyond comfort.

Weeaboos are not just people who like Japanese culture; it's important to keep in mind that many people like Japanese culture and anime and fashion and such, but they don't smear the culture by over-sensationalizing it and fetishizing it.

Weeaboos do the opposite of what they intend, and make themselves look like damn fools, taking the "otaku"/nerd image and making it into a horrible stereotype.

SO!

Now that we've cleared up what they are, let's move on to the arguments and evidence against them.

1. Anime becomes off limits.

Because weebs are many times manically obsessed with anime, it becomes almost dangerous to admit to liking and enjoying anime around new people without it being assumed that you are a huge fangirl/fanboy. It's not that you have to hide it entirely, but a stigma and judgment are slapped on at the get-go when it comes up in conversation.

2. The use of intermittent Japanese is cringeworthy.

The weeaboos that base learning their Japanese on the amount of anime they watch is staggering; throwing "kawaii" and "desu~" into your sentences does NOT mean that you're any closer to speaking Japanese, and it makes you look like a huge moron.

3. Weeaboos that actually speak Japanese might be worse...

Some weebs take their obsession to a slightly more legitimate level by taking Japanese language classes in high school or college, which validates their tunnel focus a bit; however, they should know better, and it makes them even more guilty of their weeaboo crimes.

4. They make Japanese majors/minors look bad.

As a Japanese minor and NOT a weeaboo, I can attest to the fact that there are a lot of people that genuinely like learning Japanese and about Japan; however, because there are at least two or three weebs in my classes after 2 years of college, it can be daunting and embarrassing to be lumped together with them when someone mentions them.

5. Social media and the internet is not safe.

Actually, weeaboos thrive on the internet, since they can't find their precious anime in stores in these cursed United States. Tumblr, Youtube, Reddit - no social media is untouched by the weebs. It's even worse when they Facebook friend request you, and then your newsfeed gets clogged up with their incessant otaku posts that make you cringe.

6. Cosplayers get pigeon-holed.

Weeaboos have soiled the cosplay scene for anyone that is just trying to have a good time. Cosplay has become a joke in the mainstream because of bad weeaboo costumes and embarrassing displays like this video. Props if you can make it through the whole thing (yes, it's really that bad).
