Scores of comedic Twitter accounts have achieved surprising levels of success with follower counts numbering in the hundreds of thousands and even the millions.
These are not those accounts. At least not yet anyway.
Here are five sample tweets from five as-of-yet widely undiscovered Twitter gems with less than 50K followers each. Day after day they bring the irreverent and the funny, and are all but poised to gain Internet infamy and explode into something much, much bigger.
1. Bob Scott C.P.A. (@BobScottCPA)
File this one solidly under "WTF?!" Defrocked accountant Bob Scott mixes absurd social commentary with a blow-by-blow account of his sad, unfortunate life in all its train wreck glory. What really stands out here is Bob Scott's delightfully elaborate world that only seems to grow larger — and stranger — as time goes on.
2. The Fake Pinterest (@PinterestFake)
"Pinterest this, Pinterest that!" Curious what all the fuss is about? This account will quickly bring you up to speed on absolutely everything you've been missing, offering handy do-it-yourself tips, amazing recipes and original decorating ideas.
3. Not Burlington Coats (@NotCoatFactory)
Skewering the famed Coat Factory's less-than-savvy presence on social media, this account takes it back to the basics and makes it all about the coats. Or, as they frequently put it given their unruly penchant for hashtags, the #coats.
4. Sad Paul Giamatti (@SadPaulGiamatti)
Not always does fame bring with it happiness. Often times there's a darker side. And sometimes an even darker side. Case in point: actor Paul Giamatti, whose sad face only hints at the ever-sinking level of despair that seems to constantly grip him.
5. Fake Science (@FakeScience)
So you snoozed in school during class, did you? Big deal! That's exactly why Twitter was invented. Get a crash course in science with helpful stats, inspiring quotes and stunning facts. The real stars of the show here are the gorgeous retro-influenced infographics designed to simplify complicated scientific principles.
