Oberlin Hillel's Guide To Parents Weekend

Ahh parents weekend, that time of year when your parents/family/friends come to campus, and you have to curb the fact that you're really excited to see them with the feeling that, wow, I'm not used to you guys being here this is only a little awkward. (But only a little!) Need some help planning your weekend? Here are a few tips and promotions for some awesome events on campus that you can take your parents/family/friends to do! TGIF

Start your parents weekend off right with Oberlin's favorite chill session, TGIF. It begins on Friday at 4:30 PM on Wilder bowl. Grab a beer (or soda) with Dad, catch up on how things are back at home, listen to some music and enjoy your parents being here!

Shabbat Services

Bring your parents out to Shabbat services beginning at 6:00 PM in Kosher Halal Co-op (2 S. Professor St.)! We provide an egalitarian, multi denominational kabbalat Shabbat service that is open to everyone!

Shabbat Dinner featuring CHALLaH cappella

At 7:00 PM in Kosher Halal Co-op, enjoy a middle eastern themed Shabbat meal with music provided by Oberlin's only Jewish a capella group, CHALLaH capella! No RSVP required, the meal is free and open to all!

Take them to the opera!

Show your parents how incredibly talented your conservatory friends are! This year Oberlin Opera Theater is doing a double bill featuring two whacky operas, Les Mamelles de Tiresias by Poulenc and Viva la mamma by Donizetti. Don't be fooled by the names, both of these operas are in English! There are shows Friday and Saturday night at 8 PM and Sunday afternoon at 2 PM in Hall auditorium. Click here for tickets

A Cappella Festival

Come out to hear your favorite A Capella groups including the Obertones, Pitch Please, the Acapelicans and, of course, CHALLaH capella on Friday night in Finney Chapel at 9 PM ! Tickets are $3 at the door.

Saturday morning text study with Rabbi Megan

Introduce your parents to your favorite campus Rabbi/Hillel Director on Saturday morning at 10:00 AM in Wilder 115. Rabbi Megan will be leading a text study focused on the story Noah and will focus on the questions what does it mean to be righteous? What is our responsibility to our families? Our larger communities? The entire world? This text study is open to all.

Sunday morning breakfast with the president

Without a doubt one of the biggest upsides of parents weekend is the free food. Check out sunday morning breakfast with the president at 9:45 in the Heisman field house. Make sure to register beforehand!
