Response to What Americans Need To Know About Cuba:
I visited Cuba (Matanzas, Varadero and Havana) back in 2003. I saw 3 very different and unique sides to the country - from extreme poverty to luxurious wealth. Most people assumed I was Canadian because it was almost impossible for Americans to get in. What I experienced was the most amazing hospitality from every person I came into contact with. Communities were helping each other by building playgrounds for the children and gardens so the residents could sell their goods at the market. On the whole, I found the Cuban citizens to be way more generous and open-minded than we Americans. In no way am I making this a political statement, just one about the beauty of the country and the people.
