Sense Networks, the creator of the app, claims the rating for each corner is based on estimates from machine learning algorithms of over 200 million taxi trips. Whether it's late night, or early morning, CabSense will change its rating based on the time of day, day of the week, and your location. Keep this app on hand if the subway isn't your best bet.

Flixster will calculate the closest theatres to your location, give you showtimes, reviews and an overall rating of a movie. It's powered by Rotten Tomatoes, a popular movie rating review site. If you're unsure about a choice, just watch the trailer straight from the movie's Flixster page and judge for yourself. Depending on the theatre, you can purchase tickets right off your phone--an awesome feature since time is of the essence in this city.

If your weapon of choice happens to be the latter, Get There By Bike is a good app to have in your arsenal. For less than a buck, users can get an interactive map of NYC that offers bike friendly directions. It takes into account traffic, hills and, off-street bike paths for the urban biker. The app also lets users rate high bike theft spots, or dangerous intersections.

Ordering food just got that much easier. Seamless gives you a vast list of food establishments to order food from within your area, with a rating system, delivery time estimates, and price points. Now takeout doesn't have to be a guessing game.

An accurate weather report is important in NYC. Without it, you'll end up the proud owner of one of those $3 umbrellas from the guy selling them on the corner. Good Weather provides not only a detailed overview of the day's weather — it offers mini games based on the forecast, perfect for killing time on the way to work.

Dating can be a lonely game in this big city. Skout is a hot app that is helping to change the rules of the dating game around. ;)

This dating app leaves it up to the user to make decisions and skout out their matches. Instead of providing users with matches or specific information about user's location, the app allows users to reach out to one another and respond on their own. When users are in range of each other, they can then use the apps message feature to set up a date.
