Japan's Unfortunate Skin-Whitening Trend Also Causing Nasty Side-Effects

    Skin whitening: a somewhat unfortunate beauty crazy in much of Asia, where whiteness is associated with luxury, a life lived outside the sun. Not-so-awesome racial weirdness aside, it also seems like it's really bad for you: Japanese cosmetic company Kanebo's skin-whitener gave more than 4,000 users permanently bleached blotches. They've since had to recall the product.
