The world's first statue with free Wi-Fi pays homage to true "Father of Wireless"
In geek circles Nikola Tesla is the true "Father of Wireless". He worked on projects in the 1890s and early 1900s such as beaming energy and information wirelessly around the world. He wanted to solve problems like poverty.
Nikola Tesla's inventions were key to the AC standard which we rely on every day for electricity to our homes and offices. Known for dying in poverty, he let Westinghouse out of a patent deal in the 1890s worth millions that allowed Westinghouse to commercialize the standard, beating out Edison and General Electric. He had a few other inventions too like the x-ray, wireless radio (after he died the Supreme Court said he actually invented it before Marconi) and he even tried building a tower on Long Island that would send energy wirelessly around the world. They are building an awesome science center on the land.
The project, currently underway on Kickstarter, will place a life-size bronze statue of Nikola Tesla in Palo Alto, California near California Avenue in the heart of the Silicon Valley. A model of the Tesla Statue has been created and once finalized will be casted and installed in open public view later this year. Check out the Kickstarter page or follow @teslastatue to learn more.
