On Friday, rumors began spreading on the internet that notorious Mexican drug lord Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán had escaped prison for the third time.
1. But Mexico’s secretary of the interior squashed the rumors, tweeting a photo of El Chapo in prison Friday.
Still, despite the rumors being proved false, Twitter users ran with it and produced some highly-fascinating reactions. “El Chapo” was even trending No. 1 on Twitter in the United States.
3. And because it’s social media, the memes were unleashed:
- A federal judge ruled that Texas can't cut Planned Parenthood out of its Medicaid program.
- According to the World Bank, a child born in 2014, on average, will live for more than 71 years.
