Remembering The Time An Artist Simulated Childbirth On Stage

NSFW? You betcha! Not for the weak of heart.

    This is Leigh Bowery:

He was an Australian performance artist, fashion designer, singer, and a charismatic powerhouse. Bowery dominated the art and fashion scene in New York and London throughout the '80s and '90s before he died in 1996. He was, without a doubt, one of the most interesting people of all time... and you're about to see why:

In 1994, Bowery performed at Wigstock, the annual drag music festival held in New York's East Village.

Other performers at Wigstock that year included RuPaul, Joey Arias, and Chic.

During Bowery's set, he sang "Love Stands Tall and Free."

At first, there was nothing too outlandish about his set. He walked around with a microphone and filled the stage with his very glamorous presence.

That is until he laid down on a table...

And lo and behold, Leigh Bowery did what Leigh Bowery knew how to do best...
