The New "American Horror Story" Theme Was Just Revealed And It's A Horror Movie Fan's Dream

Well, it's time to break out all of those classic horror movies, because American Horror Story is going back in time with the new season.

Ryan Murphy just revealed that Season 9 of the hit TV series will be called AHS: 1984.

Along with the announcement, Ryan posted a video on Instagram that offers some clues as to what the new season will hold.

Set to Billie Eilish's "Six Feet Under," the teaser shows a girl running through the woods of what appears to be a summer camp.

And of course, like all good horror movies, she's being followed by a creepy person in a mask who's ready to kill her.

Another fun detail from the teaser is that even before the title card appears at the end, each frame spells out "1984 AHS" when put together.

With the title and the first footage, it looks like this season will be an homage to classic slasher movies like Friday the 13th.

Paramount Pictures / Warner Bros.

In fact, 1984 is when A Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter, Children of the Corn, and even Gremlins were released in theaters.

New Line Cinema, New World Pictures

In addition to the title, we also know that Emma Roberts will be returning for this season and will be joined by Olympic skier Gus Kenworthy, who will play her boyfriend.

While no other casting news has been made official, at WonderCon 2019, Evan Peters revealed that he will NOT be returning for Season 9.

When asked about Season 9, Evan said, "No, I'm gonna sit a season out."

So, there you have it! We've got an '80s summer camp setting, Emma and Gus, no Evan, and probably enough horrific scenes to scare me from ever swimming in a lake again.
