One for Sorrow by Christopher Barzak- This book is so thoughtful and deep and haunting. The narrator actually sounds like a 16-year-old boy, instead of an adult that is mimicking one. It was made into a movie two years ago called Jamie Marks is Dead, and while the movie and the book have their differences, they complement and add to each other. Poor Things by Alasdair Gray- A really great spin on the story of Frankenstein and his monster. Breathe My Name by R.A. Nelson- A truly chilling story of child abuse, mental illness, and forgiveness. Maybe a Miracle by Brian Strause- The Anderson family are funny, screwed up, and truly unique as they all learn to cope after youngest child Annika falls into a coma and “miracles” start happening around her.
