    1. That moment you discover that "I want a coffee, please" is not the polite way to say it.

    2. Calling customer service and getting someone with a Manchester accent.

    3. Or a Scottish accent.

    4. Or anything other than RP, really.

    5. The first time you look for a room to rent.

    6. And you discover how it feels to live with eight other people.

    7. While your parents helpfully remind you that you could rent an entire house back home with that money.

    8. People's bad jokes about your country.

    9. Or, even worse, stereotypes.

    10. People having (misinformed) opinions about your country.

    11. Or about immigration in general.

    12. The quality (and price) of food.

    13. Which leads to this every time you visit home:

    14. The concept of lunch at 12.

    15. Or the fact that pubs close as early as 11 p.m.

    16. That moment when you take the Central Line for the first time.

    17. Or that moment you discover how taps work in the UK.

    18. Also, that moment when someone thinks you don't know what a word means.

    19. Generally, people assuming you don't speak English just because you don't look English.

    20. Discovering how words from your language are pronounced in English.

    21. People asking how long you plan to stay.

    22. And having to explain to family and friends why living in London is awesome nonetheless.

    23. Except, you know... The weather.
