    A millennials defense.

Our on-screen generation. Why Millennials are not stupid, lazy or crazy.

I have read countless articles that utilize 'generation shaming' to address what they consider to be a problem with my generation. We spend less time outside, we work less hours, spend less years in the workforce and seem to lack respect for the generations that made way for us in this world. I am going to explain to you exactly why I think that is wrong.

Firstly we do not disrespect you we are simply angry with you – and you deserve it. Perhaps you did not know better but you really fucked this world up for us. The lacks of foresight for sustainable business practices with less environmental impact have damaged the world you are leaving us. The o=zone layer is a shadow of its former self, water is polluted, our air is becoming increasingly unsafe to breathe and we are all dying from consumption of products and packaging you designed and then made the only option to the masses. My generation is not only left in poorer health but now we are the managers, executives and CEO on the rise who have to find a way to undo what you have done here. It is not easy and it is not cheap, so please cut us some slack for seeming like we care too little about the way things used to be. Do not laugh at my desire to drive a car that runs on electricity for I am showing foresight for future generations that your gas guzzling, environmental murderers of vehicles did not.

I spend less time outside then my parents did at probably any age. I have heard this makes us less wise in the ways of the world, less capable to communicate with the world outside of my computer. I do not claim there is any replacement for childhood exploration of the world around me, but we are not little children anymore. While we sit inside, behind these screens – we're doing shit. Smartphones are now the most common medium in the world. You may see a young person wasting time staring at a screen but do you know what else we do with our online hours? Read. We read articles, blogs, reports, news and information to up to the minute it would have blown your youthful mind 50 years ago. Along with all this time wasting I do online I am learning. I can run dozens of different computer software programs, navigate social media like a networking guru I am, I can develop content and create websites. I can type 90 words per minute and I can communicate with people across the world in real time. This is often viewed as 'easy work' as it is indoors and on a computer. Computers were one of the few good things you did for us, on top of women's lib which I cannot even begin to thank you enough for, so why is it frowned up to use them to their full potential? Yes I use spell check, that shit is fast and efficient and when tools such as it are combined with brains like Siri and automated form filling, I am pretty much unstoppable and probably complete as much office work in a week as your organizations used to in a month. We are educated, diverse and fully capable to inherit and fix the society you have left us with.

We are not all selfish little twits. Some are and unfortunately they get the most attention but they are not our voice and we really do wish you would stop listening to them. Young women who act certain ways for attention are products of a very unfortunate environment. Yes my generation houses such disasters as Miley Cyrus, Justin Beiber and Lindsay Lohan. Say what you want about these three but they have all seen more money before their 21st birthday then most people will in a lifetime. They live lavish lifestyle dreamed of by many and seem to have no shame in doing so, all the power to them! Shake your head and say she sold her morals for money but just because someone does not fear the same God as you or understand your reason to cast shame on the female body does not make them the lesser. You want to snort all your money up your nose and parade around half naked in order to make your millions-go for it.

Entitlement. Yes we feel entitled, but it does not come from nowhere. I spend 6 years and $50,000 on my education to date. You are damn right I think I am worth $60,000 a year. I have vast knowledge with a good mix of real-life experience and while I may not have been in this industry for 20 years like the person casting judgement on me from the other side of the desk, I am coming into with knowledge of the business world and technological know-how it took them almost a decade to amass while getting paid for their daily labours. You did not have to pay me to have me be this educated, I took care of that now you just need to take care of the best interests of your organization and pay for your expectations, literally.

So before you call us lazy stupid or lacking morals – remember that we were given this world and we are doing the best we can with the mess you made. We will succeed and we will win, we are just doing it our own way. It is not your way, but look at how your way worked out. People in the most wealthy and healthy countries in the world are sick, sick, sick, mentally and physically. Over drugged and misdiagnosed, divorced and addicted, feeling helpless and doing it all behind closed door. Well I say break down those doors, your broke through hypothetical glass ceilings all your lives, do it one more time and join the Millennials in a land of freedom and choices
