As a child, I watched my mother get beautiful in admiration. Peering over her shoulder at her beauty tools and makeup. Longing for the day, I too could do those big girl things. Then the day came when I was finally a big girl, sorta. Old enough to do my hair, but not old enough to drive. It was in these early days that I literally put my hair through hell. Scorching it at temperatures only the devil could admire. That was the look, crunchy coils of springy hair dangling about my face. Smelling of hot metal and burnt hair products. I think I believed I could fry the DNA texture right out of my hair. When that didn't work, I turned to years of chemical abuse, otherwise known as a relaxer. My menacing reign and brutality over my hair came to a halt about five years ago, after a disappointing Keratin treatment left me with unintentional bangs and graduated bob. I vowed to myself to take then natural hair pilgrimage into the unknown. I never thought my hair was beautiful. Even after a long validating career as a model, I still hated my hair.

However, I have come along way since my crispy days, to find my own natural beauty and versatility of my awesome hair. How wrong had I been to treat my chocolaty strands so cruel. The key to healthy hair success was rethinking my haircare routine and discovering classic techniques to creating modern new looks. Check out my latest video tutorial to see if hot rollers is the right haircare choice for you.

    HAIRCARE DETAILS:

When I wear my hair straight, I go easy on the heat and scarce on product. In both cases, less is more. I wash and blow dry my hair clean free of product, once a week. Followed by several midweek curl and body refreshers with a hot roller set.

Here's another tip: for more volume at the root, tease with a fine tooth comb, in a downward direction of the segment of hair about 2" from above the root. Spray a little hairspray into the teeth of the comb just before teasing the hair. Then take that piece of hair and finish it with a hot roller and pin it higher then the direction you want it to lay. Continue till you have completed your look. Once the rollers are cold. Flip your hair, gently running your fingers through the roots to remove the separation created from the parting the hair. Then flip back to a standing position.

Last tip: For longer lasting front face curls, gently pin "curl waves" around your face and let the hair rest while you finish getting ready. Just before you leave remove the pins and off you go. Really windy days will require a pin or two until you reach your destination.
