    Star Trek 2 Will Have Comic-Book Tie-Ins

Now that it's all official and J. J. Abrams has signed on to direct Star Trek 2 (like that was ever really not gonna happen), pre-production is now well underway. According to co-writer Roberto Orci: "The cast is excited. We have a director. We've started scouting locations. The second time around the crew is all ready together from the start, so we can jump right into the adventure." Together with fellow writer Mark Johnson, Orci has been busy working on some Star Trek comics that tie in with the movie sequel. He says: "The first few issues are adaptations of The Original Series episodes, as the 'new' crew encounters some of the same threats the original crew did, but with differences that reflect things like Kirk being a younger captain and Spock losing his homeworld. As we get closer to the next movie, the stories will begin to foreshadow the events of the movie, such as possibly introducing new characters we will see on screen... Pun very much intended." I love the idea of recreating some stories from The Original Series with the 'new' crew, but then I am a sucker for alternate story-lines. Any guesses who these new characters might be that Orci teases us with? I know they've all ready had a big-screen début in Star Trek: First Contact (1996) but I would love to see the Borg introduced into this fresh new Star Trek timeline. Maybe even a guest appearance from Patrick Stewart as Locutus. Anything or anyone in particular you'd like to see in the Star Trek sequel?
