    "I love illegal tattooing!"

Drew Barrymore and Dove Cameron bonded over getting their first tattoos as young teenagers.

While Dove is certainly a fan of tattooing, sporting more than 20 tattoos to date, Drew has (comparatively) been more cautious, with eight known tattoos. That being said, she recently added to her collection by getting three fish tattoos with friend Savannah Guthrie.

So when Dove appeared on Drew's talk show, she was asked about getting her first tattoo at the tender age of 14.

"I had this best friend when I was younger. They were very fun and I was very introverted, and she had wanted this tattoo for a long, long time — meaning we were both 14, and so she had been hyper fixating on it for a couple of months," Dove began.

"She was so scared of the pain that me — little introverted homeschooled, no-friends, chicken-owning, Pacific Northwest girl — I volunteered as tribute to go first. I was like, ‘Okay, I’ll get a tattoo first and I’ll tell you if it’s really painful.' And we did it. It was my first tattoo ever; it was like a gateway."

As it turned out, Drew could relate. "I'm so torn — now I'm 48 and a mom of two girls, and it all comes full circle. 'When did you get your first tattoo?' And I'm like ... 13," Drew replied, joking, "I love illegal tattooing!"

"It's not something I really recommend. The person who gave us the tattoo — it was in somebody's house, he ordered it online, and he was like, 'I've been practicing on oranges, I think I'm ready,'" Dove said.

As for what Dove had to say about her tattoo now, she remarked, "It's horrendously ugly." Drew responded, "So is mine! And the guy [who did it] was named Shock." As for placements, both got it on their hips — resulting in this moment:

Dove opted for the placement in an attempt to hide the tattoo from her mother. “Then, the very next day, I was like, ‘Mom, can I get a tattoo?’ And she was like, ‘No.’ And I was like, ‘Okay, what would you say if I already got a tattoo?’ And she was like, ‘Ugh. Let me see it.’ And then she was like, 'Okay, it’s really cute, don’t tell your dad,’” Dove explained. “And then I told my dad and he was like, ‘It’s really cute, don’t tell your mom.’”

If you're curious, Dove's first tattoo was of her star sign, Capricorn. She actually now has a matching one on the other side, explaining to Refinery29 in 2019, “I got my second tattoo on my 18th birthday. It’s my ex Ryan McCartan’s sign, and the exact mirror placement on my other hip from my first tattoo. Years later, after we broke up, I realized that my mom always thought it was because I played twins on Liv and Maddie. So I said, ‘Well, fuck it, now it is!’"

As for Drew's first tat, it was of some flowers.
