Cosey evenings in
No longer do you have to feel guilty for staying in and not making plans of an evening. With the rain lashing against your windows and the wind howling outside, there is nothing better to do than snuggle up in your onesie with a film and not worry about missing out on sunshine. Plus the weather offers a legitimate excuse for bailing on last minute plans (even if it's really down to laziness.)
Bikini bodies are officially a thing of the past
All those months of toiling and dieting and foregoing on your favourite dessert for that sought-after bikini-bod can now be laid to rest. That bikini can be shoved back in a drawer in the safe sense your body will be hidden under thick layers for the next few months, leaving you free to indulge in those carbs.
An excuse to watch more films
The best films are always released in the winter, and it's a chance to snuggle up with a loved one or invite a group of friends round and curl up under a blanket whilst watching the best new releases, a bowl of popcorn wedged between you. It's also a great excuse to head down the cinema- an escape from the rain and cold and a great pasttime.
The hot drinks
On a cold day there is nothing better than curling up with a hot mug of tea, and it always tastes better in winter than in summer. Hot chocolate also becomes more extravagant- marshmallows? Squirty cream? Why not - it's winter! Plus all of our favourite coffee chains release their festive winter warmers- spiced gingerbread latte anyone?
Winter baths
No longer do you have to worry about scalding your sunburn or lowering your already-overheated body into a vat of hot water. After getting in from a cold, dark walk from the bus stop there is nothing nicer than getting into a hot, bubbly bath, candles and wine at the ready, the soothing sound of rain gently pattering on the windows.
The food
Salads are long gone, and with christmas on the way, meals become more about roast dinners, hot mugs of soup and comfort food (think typically-British meals such as stews, casseroles and toad in the hole.) The festive food is also a real bonus- selection packs, family size boxes of biscuits and of course the tins of Quality Street and Roses.
Winter fashion
Winter fashion is a lot less high maintenance than that of the summer, but still just as nice. Jumpers are in abundance, the polo neck makes a comeback and it's an excuse to purchase a new winter coat- for it's an ulterior staple of the season. Cuts become more flattering, patterns more vivacious and colours more striking.
Party season
From mid-October until the end of January party season is in full swing- from Halloween dos to numerous Christmas parties and New Years Eve bashes there are numerous occassions to polish off those favourite heels (which are too nice for outdoor use) and wear all of your favourite dresses and skirts
Christmas
This one's a given. From the sparkly lights and tinsel to the festive food, to the high spirits and great atmospheres, there is little you can complain about this time of year. Plus, even if you find the commercialised music and cheesy films a little too much, there is nothing better than both giving and receiving presents on Christmas day!
Bonfire/Firework night
Nothing brings back childhood memories like bonfire night. It's a great excuse to grab a load of friends or loved ones and head down to your nearest display. Battling the impossible task of eating chips with gloves on is just part of the charm as is seeing how close you can stand to the fire without it being too hot/ smoky that you pass out. That heavy, delicious smell of burning logs fills the air, and you can relax and just take in the display and atmosphere, spending time with those closest to you.
