PERHAPS THE WEIRDEST ROAD CROSSING IMAGINABLE!

A highly strange, ridiculous obstacle sometimes plays a part in halting the traffic on a certain highway. No, its not some type of animals crossing the road or any unusual natural activity that the drivers have to stop for.It is, in fact, something far, far more strange. Don't get me wrong though;technically, it still is a crossing.

The 1.5 km long Winston Churchill Avenue serves as the sole road connection between the British overseas territory of Gibraltar and Spain but who would have thought that it, in its length, intersects the runway of an airport-Gibraltar International Airport for that matter.The road is, as a result, closed everytime a plane lands or departs. The main reason for the crossing to exist even in the first place is perhaps the shortage of land that Gibraltar faces.To overcome the safety and time-delay issues this crossing poses, the government of Gibraltar announced in 2009 that a 350-metre long ungerground tunnel would be built to accomodate the road and pedestrian movement. Altough this would ensure a smoother flow of traffic, it may possibly rob the airport of the uniqueness it possesses. After all, it would be seldom that motorists would become agitated waiting for the crossing to open, with what the the view and all!
