Here's my loose change interpretation of what hit last night, when my shuffle played these two songs back-to-back and a buried narrative presented itself unto me. Robyn's Call Your Girlfriend and Dancing On My Own at first listen seem to be two entirely different songs. But something stank so I did some of that sweetass Pope & Associates cross-referencing and figured it out. Both songs tell ONE break up story, from TWO vantage points, BOTH saddled with the same dopey guy gallivanting, willy-nilly, at the center of it all. Call Your Girlfriend from the gaze of the cocky new girlfriend and Dancing on My Own from the lens of the lingering ex girlfriend trying to figure out what the-Que Paso-just happened. It's easy to forget that there are two sides to every break up and that we've all probably been one of these girls at some point in our lives (not me, I never leave my apartment). So thank you, Robyn for the very informative lesson in POV and cool hairdos. Now, Who in all Humping-An-Empty-Warehouse-Floor, is this guy who's got both our Robyn's all twisted? (Idris Elba?!?! No? K, cooljustwonderingthaaaaaanks.)
