Fans Are Saying A$AP Rocky Called Out Travis Scott In His New Rap Lyrics, And The Reasons Why Are Suspect

It seems like the fans believe where there is smoke, there is fire.

According to fans, A$AP Rocky allegedly called out Travis Scott in his latest performance — but I have my doubts.

On Sunday, the 34-year-old rapper (real name Rakim Athelaston Mayers) previewed three unreleased tracks from his forthcoming album Don't Be Dumb during his headlining set at Rolling Loud Miami, and the crowd was up.

In a viral snippet shared on social media, Rocky rapped the lyrics, "First you stole my flow, so I stole your bitch / Then you stole my style, I need at least like 10 percent / All the disrespect, I hope you take offense," and the speculations and accusations went wild.

Of course, fans made a mountain out of a mole hill. They assumed the lyrics were a direct diss to Travis, 31, because of both rappers' connection to Grammy-winning singer/beauty mogul Rihanna, plus the speculation that they're biting each other's overall persona.

Rihanna and A$AP Rocky confirmed their relationship in November 2020. Now, they share a 14-month-old son, RZA, and they're currently expecting another child who made their public debut during the 2023 Super Bowl.

As for Travis, he was rumored to have a relationship with Rihanna all the way back in 2015, after being seen together on numerous occasions and outings in Los Angeles, according to People. He also worked with Rihanna on the song "Woo" from her 2016 album Anti and her 2015 single "Bitch Better Have My Money" — so there's somewhat of a connection.

In the end, Travis and Rhianna's relationship was never officially confirmed. In 2017, Travis dated Kylie Jenner, with whom he shares a 5-year-old daughter, Stormi, and a 17-month-old son, Aire.

As for the speculation that both rappers stole each other's style, it doesn't just stop at the comparison of lyricism and fashion. Both Travis and Rocky have been physically mixed up numerous times. In this video posted by VladTV, you can clearly hear A$AP Rocky become frustrated when he was mistaken for Travis.

And the same went for Travis in this instance, where he became visibly upset after he was mistaken for Rocky.

Rocky directly addressed the conversation on an episode of Drink Champs. "Naw. You can't feed into petty shit like that," he said. "At this point — that shit is trash at this point. I saw similarities for sure. I saw that he inspired."

Rocky was quick to squash the idea there were bad intentions behind the similarities. "Imitation is the best form of flattery. If people aren't trying to imitate you, then you're doing something wrong," he said.

But the fans aren't buying it and continue to drive the story that the rappers are responsible for copying one another:

From where I'm standing, the beef feels like a reach. Just because two Black men who rap have box braids and a similar cadence, they're not the same. There's no point in creating a narrative that they can't coexist in the culture simultaneously.
