American Horror Story's Most Interesting Characters: 3 From Each Season

American Horror Story is known for seriously messing with the minds of their viewers. From murderers to nuns and everything in between, here is some of Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuck's best work from the past 4 years. WARNING: If you haven't watched any of these seasons, there ARE spoilers.

Season One: Tate Langdon

It's strange to say you hate someone and love someone at the same time, but then you watch Tate in Murder House and you understand why that's a saying. Girls absolutely love Evan Peters' breakout role as Tate--and not only for his insanely good looks. He protects Violet and you can tell, even in the last episode, that he truly, deeply loves her. He hides her own suicide from her for multiple episodes, wipes her tears away, and says he would do anything for her. Awww, right? Wrong. Later on, you find out that he's murdered multiple people, that he set his mother's boyfriend on fire, that he raped Violet's mother, and has impregnated her with the spawn of Satan, so there's a bad side to him too. Nonetheless, Tate comes out of Season One as loveable for me. Why? I don't know, and it disturbs me greatly. Moving on.

Season Two: Dr. Thredson/Bloodyface

Picking my favorite characters from Asylum really is a daunting task for me because they're all ridiculously interesting, but who can deny that once Zachary Quinto left AHS it was never the same? I never expected Dr. Thredson to be behind Bloodyface, I never expected him to have such intense mommy issues, and I never expected him to be so ridiculously insane. I'll never forget that one line when he reveals to Lana that he murdered her lover, her body laid out frozen in front of her. "Don't worry, she won't bite. I took her teeth."

Season Three: Madame Delphine LaLaurie

When Kathy Bates was cast for Season 3, every AHS fan that I know was insanely excited. (Have you seen Misery?! If not, watch it immediately and you'll understand what I mean.) Kathy Bates really killed it in Season 3 (no pun intended,) providing massive amounts of gore, humor, and blatant racism that really made my friends and I stay tuned in to the series. The bit with Obama is absolute gold, her obsession with murder and torture was cringe-worthy, and the magical reason behind her survival through hundreds of years was super interesting. She made the season for me, easily.

Season Four: Dandy Mott

I'll say it: Finn Wittrock is ridiculously hot. He also is insanely creepy, entitled, and child-like in this role. I mean, this role was so well done by Wittrock that it made someone that ridiculously hot into someone that I would never want to get near, EVER. Dandy Mott is obviously an homage to American Psycho, and I loathed him, but I loved to loathe him. He was a character that made you think, and I really liked that about him. Hopefully Finn comes back for future seasons, because Season 4 would have been a lot less watchable without him.

Season One: Constance Langdon

I absolutely adored Constance. So prim, proper, and damn-near perfect, her inner darkness that unravels as the season progresses is really interesting to watch. Some of the things she says are hilarious, but at the same time, some of them were really deep and philosophical. I feel this character really tested her acting abilities, as her monologues are not easy to pull off. You go, Jessica Lange. Also, can we talk about how perfect Jessica Lange is?

Season Two: Lana Winters

It's no secret that Sarah Paulson is a flawless human being. Just look at one of her drunk videos. Lana Winters proved just how great of an actress Sarah is, and her story line is intense from beginning to end. From rape, torture, conversion therapy, and breaking out of all of that, Lana deals with enough in a single episode that would leave any normal human being scarred for life. She's strong and focused, never leaving her love of writing. True, she has flawed morality toward the end, but it's undeniable Lana will be one of the only characters in the history of television, at least for me, that you cheer for when she kills her own son.

Season Three: Madison Montgomery

When Emma Roberts signed on to AHS, a lot of us were concerned. Coming from Nickelodeon and a few not-so-good movies, Roberts was Peters' fiance and someone with a lot of untapped potential. Murphy and Falchuck wrote the BEST possible character for her, and Roberts proved that she really could act, just like her aunt. No longer do people say she was hired because of her boyfriend; she was hired because she was the perfect person to play the hilariously evil Madison Montgomery. Not only was she new, but she was one of the characters who made Coven such a hit. Surprise, bitch.

Season Four: Twisty The Clown

Twisty scared the hell out of all of my friends, my roommate can't even look at him without freaking out (shout out to Dahhee,) and his story is actually heartbreaking. I never understood why Mordrake thought he was without morals, when in reality he was a product of negligent parenting, excessive bullying, and thinking he knew his identity as good when it wasn't. Poor, stupid Twisty. Also, why did they cut him out so early on? The season was missing a lot, and Twisty should have been in more episodes.

Season One: Moira O'Hara

It's not everyday that two actors get to play one character for an entire season of a show, but then we have Moira. Innocent and trapped, Moira is a character that you legitimately feel for. She protects the Harmon family, fuels a large portion of the plot, and really makes things interesting. I also loved how they took Frances Conroy's eye and made it into a plot point. Well done, Murphy and Falchuck, well done.

Season Two: Sister Mary Eunice

Picking my final character for Asylum was very difficult, but Sister Mary Eunice is just too interesting to leave off the list. She's the epitome of good and submissive, gets possessed, and then takes the show on a roller coaster ride. She's pure, unadulterated evil, and she controls anyone that is near her. "Bad bitch" would be an understatement.

Season Three: Queenie

Gabourey Sidibe made her AHS debut in Coven, and she did not disappoint. Queenie is hilarious, to-the-point, and powerful. She definitely was a proponent for great moments of horror (i.e. the scene with the fryers,) and she has enough sass to start the next world war. They didn't utilize Gabby almost at all for Freakshow, and it's really a shame.

Season Four: Chester Creb & Marjorie

Okay, so maybe this counts as two characters, but since Marjorie is a doll who is a figment of Chester's imagination, I'm gonna let it slide. Neil Patrick Harris and Jamie Brewer were an incredible combo in Freakshow. Jamie really showed off her acting chops and Neil proved once again that he's perfect in pretty much every way. Chester was interesting, thought-provoking, and terrifying. He was the best character written for Freakshow. Naturally, he only got two episodes, and I'm still angry about it.
