Campus Safety Tips

Like many college campuses, MSU's campus is safe, welcoming, and offers plenty to do. It never hurts to take precautions, though, especially at night. Here are a couple things to keep in mind.

5. The Buddy System

It always helps to have an extra pair of eyes when you're making your way around MSU's huge campus. The buddy system also ensures that someone knows where you are at all times; you wouldn't want to worry anyone.

4. Don't Leave Things Unattended

It's never a good idea to leave things lying around in public, whether they be food, jackets -- anything you don't want turning up missing. Keep an eye on your possessions at all times.

3. Consider Other Means of Transportation

Knowing the nighttime bus schedule can be the difference between a three mile walk and a five minute ride. If there isn't a convenient route near you, you can also use a ride-sharing service to quickly and safely get to your destination.

2. Lock Your Door

For your sake (and your roommate's), be sure to lock your door when you're not home or about to go to sleep. This not only keeps intruders out, but also prevents awkward encounters with people mistaking your room for another.

1. Don't Let Just Anyone Into Your Residence Hall

If someone lives in a residence hall, their student ID will allow them entry into the building. Otherwise, they should wait for a friend, or call the front desk to let them in. If you see someone you don't know trying to enter a residence hall they don't live in, let the RHS staff handle it. It's probably nothing, but it doesn't hurt to be careful.
