Time magazine recently honored Kanye West as one of the "100 Most Influential People" in the world.
As part of the series, the "pop-culture juggernaut" sat down with Time to discuss his power, legacy, and mindset going forward, as he strives to make life easier and "doper for our kids."
1. On being "extremely truthful" and outspoken:
"Every time I say something that is extremely truthful, out loud, it literally breaks the internet. So what are we getting all of the rest of the time?"
2. On how he sees the world:
"We were born into a broken world and we're like the cleanup crew."
3. On what's most important to him:
"What can I do with my voice? What can we do for each other to make life easier, to make life doper for our kids, you know, as they grow?"
4. About dreaming big and not living inside a box:
"What's the main thing that makes magic magic? The fact that no one believes it's possible."
5. On dealing with the fashion elitists:
"When I entered the fashion world and I encountered a lot of elitism and all that... it just made me happy."
6. Discussing the pressure upon entering the fashion world:
"It was something fun. We had the entire world against us. It was like absolutely no allies whatsoever."
7. Why it's important to stay positive and use the low moments as motivation:
"Remember this moment, 'cause it won't always be like this. Embrace this moment when no one came to see the collection."
8. On turning the negative into a positive:
"I take things people look at as a negative as an inspiration to do something better."
9. His legacy:
"I don't care about having a legacy. I don't care about being remembered."
10. And finally, his mission in life and what the focus should be for everyone:
"Do everything you got. Give everything you got. And our focus needs to be less about what our legacy is gonna be or how we're gonna control each other, but more, how we can give to each other."
