    Confessions Of A Hotel Housekeeper

Cleaning toilets like its my job. Oh, wait...

We have all stayed at a hotel, anticipating the vacation ahead of us. Excited for tropical beaches, amusement parks or much needed rest, your hotel becomes the base of operations for sleep and planning. But on the other side of the hotel business lies the grimy underbelly: housekeeping. At a glance, housekeepers seem to be excited for another day at work, ready to take on any strange stain or dirty toilet bowl with heroic pride. Yet, we housekeepers keep secrets; dirty secrets that cannot be wiped away with any amount of all purpose cleanser.

As soon as you check in, the magic begins. The keycard for your suite and the elevator to your room are rarely cleaned, if at all. See that crusty smudge on the button for the 5th floor? Don't ask me where that came from.

Before you jump on the bed and flail about the blankets, feel at ease knowing the comforter never gets washed. Ever. Just let that sink in.

Other than that, the comforter is handled by hundreds of guests, being used for all sorts of rumpus.

And that coffee pot with the fancy cups might only have been rinsed with water. Last week.

There also might be moments where we have no time to vacuum and we just pick the big crumbs off of the floor.

Fortunately, you can leave the hotel and escape for just a little while. But for housekeeper's, this is when the real mission starts.

Of course, there are those moments where I think you left. But you're just in the shower. Or using the restroom. For whatever it is...you...do...

But I continue the adventure, by venturing deeper into your room and finding the possessions that make up the unique person that is you.

Tips are a thing too. Even a dollar can change the whole day.

We really do care about your stay, though. And will do whatever we can to make your trip the best you have ever had.

And we hope you come back soon.
