A team of scientists travel to a remote island near Costa Rica to investigate the validity of a new theme park where the main attractions are cloned dinosaurs whose DNA has been fabricated from a fossilized mosquito and frogs.

One disgruntled park worker decides to take matters into his own hands, and works to smuggle the DNA out to another competitor. In order to sneak out of the park, he must turn off all of the power to the island, which also turns off the power to the electric fences surrounding the dinosaurs… and the rest is history.

However, what if the park creators had been smart and implemented a back-up power source that would protect the fence in case of catastrophic power failure or shut down… say something like a battery powered electric fence? No escaping T-rex or velociraptors, and nobody dies.

The movie opens with Marty agreeing to help Doc put the finishing touches on his time machine. The pimped out Delorean finally works and is capable of crossing into the fabric of space and time. While Marty is there filming the whole spectacle, a team of Libyan terrorists pull up.

Turns out, in order to make the time machine work, Doc had to illegally acquire some plutonium from some not so savory characters. The Libyans assassinate Doc, and Marty is forced to flee in the Delorean to escape, which sends him back to the 1950’s.

If only Doc had tried to be a little more creative in the invention of the Time Machine, perhaps waiting to see if there was any safer/less illegal element he could have used to create time travel. Maybe even batteries! Then Marty wouldn’t have needed to travel back in time, almost breaking up his parents, thus erasing his existence and changing the time continuum.

The Shining

When Jack Torrance and his family become caretakers for a large and prominent hotel, they get a little more than they bargained for. Built on a Native American burial ground, it becomes very apparent that the hotel is haunted by its former guests, and even more frightening, the former caretaker who murdered his entire family. Jack’s son, who has a special gift himself, spends his time wandering the hotel.

After reporting his weird encounters to his mother, she then relays this to Jack who has become more and more captivated by the forces of the hotel spirits. He eventually goes crazy, and the whole family is trapped inside due to the immense snowfall.

Unfortunately, the Torrance family didn’t bring any spare batteries, so after Jack tampers with the two-way radio, they are unable to contact anyone for help. You’re going to a giant hotel in the middle of nowhere, and you forget to bring extra batteries?!?! Sounds like a bad time. IF they had only remembered, they might have been able to escape with a little less trauma.

The Matrix

Some humans in the real world managed to escape and make plans to help the human resistance. They sometimes are forced to enter in the Matrix, where they can use their knowledge of its complex algorithms to bend the laws of “science”. After finding Neo, they teach him karate and use him to battle the machines.

But what if humans had created the machines to run off batteries and not solar power! There would have been no catastrophic poisoning of our atmosphere, and the machines would have just stopped working as soon as their batteries ran out of energy… you know like a laptop.

After a half-eaten body washes up on shore, police are quick to identify it as a shark attack. However, not wanting to diminish their seasonal revenue, the mayor of Amity Island persuades them to label it a boating accident… and of course, mayhem ensues

They try to lure the shark in with bait, and eventually just end up shooting the shark and blowing it up. Most of the chaos erupts due to the fact that we never know when the shark will attack, and his whereabouts (though he is about 30ft) are a mystery to everyone at Amity….which is a little weird considering the invention of GPS was around even in the 70’s, and had they merely attached one of these battery powered devices to the shark through bait or spear… well that certainly would have saved everyone a lot of trouble.
