LaKeith Stanfield and model Kasmere Trice have a lot to celebrate these days!
In a recent interview with People, LaKeith and Kasmere opened up about newlywed life and why they decided to keep their pregnancy news private.
“We decided early on we wanted to protect our baby as much as we can for as long as possible," Kasmere told People.
"Being in the public eye can be something that’s amazing, but it can also be something that is very hard on you," LaKeith added. "There needs to be things that exist that are sacred and not for consumption for everybody.”
They decided to withhold the name and sex of their baby to keep that sense of privacy. They wanted to be the ones to control the narrative surrounding their family.
The couple, who announced their engagement in December, met in Canada, where LaKeith was working at the time.
“We were just feeling each other out, like maybe this will be a cool friend,” LaKeith said. “As love does, it just smacked us out of nowhere. I’m working on my music, writing and writing, and then this person who I was seemingly writing about pops up in my life. It was strange.”
The Haunted Mansion star admitted he was hesitant at first, but he decided to ultimately give himself to love, and allow it to take its course.
LaKeith is also the father of two daughters under the age of seven, from previous relationships, including one with actor Xosha Roquemore. Kasmere gushed about watching LaKeith embrace fatherhood.
“I’m really honored that I got to see the father in [him] before I was even having our baby,” Kasmere said.
"We've manifested this beautiful family," LaKeith added. "I want to spend the rest of my life with her."
