Living Like...The Originals

Another series finale, another summer of not seeing the Mikaelsons wreak havoc on New Orleans. Oh what are we ever to do? Worry not, here is your guide on how to hold on until the next season premiere. Take some pointers on living like, The Originals.

1.

Decor. Lavish but simple. One thing about their home is the good contrast between the walls and furniture. Toned down hues on walls, to make the dark wood on chairs pop; or more colorful walls with softer details here and there. Budget is too tight? Go to garage sales or thrift stores, you might something there.

2.

Light. Either in their own home or others, there is always the use of candles to romanticize and soften the brutality from their situation. Candles, chandeliers....but mostly candles. Something as simple as this can make a room look more pulled together.

3.

Eating. Blood is not the only fuel for these individuals. They do love to live lavishly and that shows even in the simplest of tasks, like eating breakfast. Going for the use of fine crystal, fruit and even traditional beignets. Elijah's favorites.

4.

Art. Klaus is the authority when it comes to this department. Always the one to take the task of decorating whatever home they take, the hybrid enjoys displaying portraits and landscapes in each room. Some of them might even be his own creation, who knows? Take a cue from the guy and pick up a few art supplies.

5.

Decanters. You could easily say, well alcohol more than anything. But I doubt any of us have the same resistance in our liver, like they do. Plus endorsing alcohol is not really my thing. Still, it is always pretty and useful to have the classic containers in one or two rooms filled with water.

Culture. Living for a thousand years can be boring if you don't educate yourself. The Mikaelsons traveled a lot, but in between the trips they got hold of a book. To pass the time, do some research or even for learning. Too boring for you? I'm sure there is a book out there you might enjoy. Ask your local librarian for help.

7.

Going green. The witches use herbs for their potions and spells. Granted, we don't have a grimoire but can still benefit from the medicinal and culinary benefits some herbs possess. Start on a small garden of your own. Mint, basil and rosemary are some suggestions. Right now most gardening stores carry a good supply due to the season. Ask around.

8.

Fashion. Each character has their unique style.

*Elijah likes the business look with suits, ties, cuff links and such since he is most of the time, the diplomat of the family.

*Klaus likes a casual look that results in long sleeved cotton shirts in solid, dark colors. Leather jackets to attribute his allure to being a bad boy, and jeans.

*Rebekah, for the most part wears jeans or pants since most of the time the woman is on the run. From her brothers, father or other enemies. However she keeps certain details of her girly nature through soft cuts in her tops or jackets. Also in the jewelry she keeps.

*Freya is a mixture of two of her siblings: Klaus and Rebekah. Going for the edged appeal with the romantic softness in colors, or cut of the fabric.

9.

Genealogy. Everyone knows that supernaturals (apparently) keep records on their family. Going as far back as they can, they can keep records via pictures or writings. For us normal people, give it a try by asking some relatives or by visiting websites specialized in this. Some of them are free of charge and will let you start building a family tree online.

10.

Attitude. Sarcasm is always welcomed, along with good observation skills and a witty comeback. Be eloquent when trying to give a warning.

11.

Well that's it. Be sure to visit New Orleans if you have the chance. If not? Make a good batch of gumbo and set up for an Originals marathon by purchasing the DVDs. Season 1 is already available. Season 2 will be coming out September 2015.
