It's A Trap! 10 Reasons Why The Force Awakens Is A Remake Of The Original Star Wars

The hype is not real. See how the new movie is just a remake of the original movie. Beware of Spoilers!

After seeing the Force Awakens the big question is: Did it live up to the hype? My answer is no. Unfortunately the new JJ Abrams movie just recycled the plot from A New Hope in a way too simplistic way. Obviously the parallels were done on purpose to try to connect the new with the old however it made for a way too predictable and unexciting film. Overall, this was a good movie however not one that lived up to Star Wars potential. Warning: Spoilers are ahead!

1. Tatooine vs. Jakku

Both movies start with a desolate desert planet that is the perfect origin for our hero's humble beginnings.

2. Luke vs. Rey

Both heroes start out with humble beginnings with Rey working as a scavenger to survive and Luke stuck working for his Uncle. They are characterized by incredible skill with flying ships and taking care of droids. Both want more of an adventure out of life but are still somewhat reluctant to leave home. Also, notice how similarly the two are dressed.

3. Info hidden in droids

In A New Hope, Princess Leia places an important message for Ben Kenobi inside of R2D2 which is later discovered by Luke. Similarly, Poe Dameron places a map that leads to Skywalker into BB8 to be discovered by Rey.

4. Yoda vs. Maz Kanata

The mentors for the hero seem to have some very big similarities. Both are small, alien-like creatures that the audience quickly falls in love with. Both teach their respective protege about the force and prepare them for their journey to come.

5. Han Solo vs. Poe Dameron

The gutsy new fighter pilot Poe Dameron seems to have a lot of the same flying skills and charisma that Han Solo has, probably so he can replace Solo after his dramatic death.

6. The Mos Eisley Cantina vs. Maz Kanata’s Castle

The crew always seems to end up in an interesting place searching for help and the new castle features similarly exotic aliens and iconic music. This is also the place where we come viewers meet a new bounty hunter.

7. Darth Vader vs. Kylo Ren

This villainous parallel is inevitable and necessary. However, the Darth Vader fanboy known as Kylo Ren fails to meet up to dark side expectations. At first he seems better than Vader with his ominous voice and mask. Unfortunately he took off his mask way too early showing a very weak character with some awful hair. Sidenote: I'd like to add that he looks a lot like Loki, questioning whether Star Wars is flying too close to the Marvel sun.

8. Emperor Palpatine vs. Supreme Leader Snoke

The dark side would not be complete without a villain in charge of the villain and that is the exact role that both of these characters play. Unfortunately this Snoke character has a very similar name to Snape from Harry Potter or President Snow from the Hunger Games. He also looks a lot like Marvel's villain Thanos.

9. Grand Moff Tarkin vs. General Hux

The ominious war general Hux seems to be just a reboot of Tarkin when he was younger.

10. Death Star vs. Star Killer Base

The weapon of choice for the dark side never seems to change. The death star just simply evolves into a bigger form known as Star Killer Base (they couldn't come up with a better name?) for the new film. Of course, there is one vulnerable point that requires one brave hero to enter a trench and destroy the base just in time. The scene leading up to this parallels almost exactly to the original series with Leia, Ackbar and the gang looking at a map of the star destroying weapon.

The biggest thing missing in the new movie??? Jar Jar Binks
