It's a time where contestants can dress as what their country represents to them.
Some costumes are extremely elaborate, like Miss Mexico circa 2012:
Some are more, uh, literal like Miss Canada in 2015:
Or Miss Canada as a giant snowflake wearing pajamas in 2017:
But my favorite thing is to see what the United States' "national costume" is because our national identity is so over the place.
I did some digging and found some pictures of contestants dressed in the US "national costume" and some are, well, you'll see for yourself.
In 2013, Miss USA dressed as some sort of red, white, and blue transformer because nothing says USA! quite like a big ole' transformer.
In 2004, Miss USA dressed as some sort of feathered gladiator.
In 2005, Miss USA dressed as a prairie woman.
The national costume in 2014 was a more simple Statue of Liberty.
In 2015, Miss USA went with a NASA theme.
She has also had a giant feather wings moment.
In 2017, we were back to this gladiator theme.
In 2021 it was a sphere and a gold leotard thing.
In 2002, she went as a firefighter.
In 2003, Miss USA went with a Wonder Woman vibe.
In 2015, just, like, a massive feather thing.
In 2006, Miss USA went as a red, white, and blue snowflake thing.
In 2001, Miss USA went as a cowgirl.
And last but not least, and my personal favorite, nothing says the national costume of the USA quite like 2009s.
Yes, that year our national costume was NASCAR.
