"Pripyat city in the Ukraine once housed the families of thousands of men and women working at the nearby Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant. But on 26 April 1986 disaster struck when an explosion at the plant caused radiation to leak from its nuclear rector."

2. Island of the Dolls, Xochimilco, Mexico

"The island was once the property of Don Julián Santana, a local farmer. Legend has it that in 1950 he saw a little girl drown in the canal and her spirit began haunting the place. Terrified, Don Julián started collecting dolls to protect himself from her ghost. He gathered them from trash heaps and hung them around the island like creepy Christmas ornaments. Over half a century, he collected more than 1,500 of these little horrors."

3. Winchester Mystery House, San Jose, United States

"Ever since construction commenced in 1884, the property and mansion was claimed, including by Winchester herself, to be haunted by the ghosts of those killed with Winchester rifles. Under Winchester's day-to-day guidance, its "from-the-ground-up" construction proceeded around the clock, by some accounts, without interruption, until her death on September 5, 1922, at which time work immediately ceased."

4. Suicide Forest, Aokigahara, Japan

"Called 'the perfect place to die,' the Aokigahara forest has the unfortunate distinction of the world's second most popular place to take one's life. Since the 1950s, Japanese businessmen have wandered in, and at least 500 of them haven't wandered out, at an increasing rate of between 10 and 30 per year."

6. Old Changi Hospital, Singapore

"The Japanese used Changi Hospital as a prison camp for the British and their allies, which included: Australians, Indians (India) and the Malays. Common witness reports include: screams, apparitions and shadow people. Erratic lights and phantom scents are also seen and smelled. One phenomenon seen is the bloody sight of the slaughtered Japanese soldiers. Another is that of a small boy that is always seen sitting and staring into space."

7. The Haunted Vicarage, Borgvattnet, Sweden

"Beelitz-Heilstätten was built between 1898 and 1930 after an initiative by the German National Insurance Institute who found that the closeness to Berlin in combination with the fresh air of the countryside made the location ideal for a sanatorium. In 1945 it was occupied by Soviet forces and remained a Soviet military hospital even after Germany united in 1990. Sections of the hospital remained open after the military left and were used as a neurological rehabilitation center to help sufferers of Parkinson's disease. In 2000, the last operations in Beelitz- Heilstätten were closed and the complex was completely abandoned".

8. Gunkanjima, Nagasaki, Japan

"Populated from 1887 to 1974 as a coal mining facility, Gunkanjima housed thousands of workers in its heyday. The tiny island had apartment buildings, a school, hospital, shrine, retail stores and restaurants and became the most densely populated place in the world per square meter with over 5,000 inhabitants in the 1950s. When coal mining declined, operations at the facility ceased and the island was abandoned in 1974."

9. Overtoun Bridge, Milton, Scotland

"Located near the village of Milton in the burgh of Dumbarton, Scotland, exists a bridge that for some reason or another, has been attracting suicidal dogs since the early 60s. Not only have they been plummeting to their deaths from the bridge, but many have witnessed the dogs actually climbing the parapet wall before making the jump."

10. Chauchilla Cemetery, Nazca, Peru

"Since 1997, Peruvian law has protected the haunting Chauchilla Cemetery, a Nazca burial ground where mummified corpses were laid to rest until the ninth century. Prior to 1997, it was ravaged mercilessly by Peruvian grave robbers. For many of these ancient corpses, it was the second time they lost their heads."

12. Capuchin Catacombs, Palermo, Italy

13. The Bhangharh Fort, India
