Sparkling wine epitomizes celebration. It automatically makes any gathering feel more festive and special. In the same way many people call facial tissue Kleenex and lip balm Chapstick, sparkling wine is often called Champagne across the board. In fact, Champagne is sparkling wine made in the Champagne region of France according to strict regulations. In different parts of the world sparkling wines go by other names such as cava in Spain and prosecco in Italy. Here in Missouri, we just call it delicious!

Missouri wineries have been making sparkling wine for years, many in the traditional method (méthode champenoise) in which the wine goes through a secondary fermentation process in the bottle where the bubbles are formed. It's a time consuming process, but it's proving well worth it. Missouri sparklers keep bring home big honors from competitions across the country.
