10 "Tuesdays With Morrie" Quotes That Will Change Your Outlook On Life

Oddly enough on a Tuesday night I finished the book Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom. The whole book is the true story of a dying man teaching a young man lessons about everyday life and death.

A story of an old man who embraces death with open arms.

Death is a topic that is usually avoided in conversation. However this book doesn't shy away from the topic and takes it head on. Even when experiencing someone close dying, it's a hard subject to talk about and usually the truth is avoided. This avoidance is common and natural for human beings.

Reading Tuesdays with Morrie has shown me that we shouldn't be scared of death and need to accept it as a natural thing. This book also taught me that even though we are going to die one day, today we should enjoy every minute. Below are __ quotes from the book that can really change your outlook on life:

    1. "Maybe death is the great equalizer , the one big thing that can finally make strangers shed a tear for one another." (pg. 51)

    2. "The most important thing in life is to learn how to give out love, and to let it come in...'Love is the only rational act.'" (pg. 52)

    3. "How useful it would be to put a daily limit on self-pity. Just a few tearful minutes, then on with the on with the day." (pg. 57)

    4. "And if you are ever going to have other people trust you, you must feel that you can trust them, too--even when you're in the dark. Even when you're falling." (pg. 61)

    5. "We all need teachers in our lives." (pg. 65)

    6. "Everyone knows they're going to die," he said again, "but nobody believes it. If we did, we would do things differently." (pg. 81)

    7. "Once you learn how to die, you learn how to live." (pg. 82)

    8. "I don't want to leave the world in a state of fright. I want to know what's happening, accept it, get to a peaceful place, and let go. Do you understand?" (pg. 107)

    9. "He saw right to the core of the problem, which was human beings wanting to feel that they mattered." (pg. 112)

    10. "If you're always battling against getting older, you're always going to be unhappy, because it will happen anyhow." (pg. 119)

    11. "Devote yourself to loving others, devote yourself to your community around you, and devote yourself to creating something that gives you purpose and meaning." (pg. 127)

    12. "Be compassionate," Morrie whispered. "And take responsibility for each other. If we only learned those lessons, this world be so much better a place." (pg. 163)

    13. "Forgive yourself before you die. Then forgive others." (pg. 164)

If you are a huge book nerd like me, you'll know the importance of quotes and how much they stick with. Book new or not though, this a book definitely worth reading. It is a quick read and really sticks with you.

Maybe even change the way you live your life.
