Everyone gets a fangin' for some hot chips every now and then, but have you ever wondered who actually has the best chips in town?

8. Nando's

7. Guzman Y Gomez

6. Hungry Jack's

5. KFC

4. McDonald's

3. Grill'd

2. Red Rooster

1. Oporto

Battle of the thin and thick cut chips.
Well, don't you worry because three of us put out mouths to the test (heh) in a super scientific* chip taste test.
We tried out eight different chips from eight fast food joints to find out which reigned supreme. We ranked each out of 10, for a total score out of 30.
*Look we know it's subjective but you're probably going to drag us in the comments either way, so we're ready.
Michelle: Lmao, what was that? I don’t want to sound like Gordon Ramsay, but fuck me, they were fucking undercooked AND under-seasoned. Cheeky Nando's run my ass, honestly.
Tahlia: I do not rate this, they were undercooked AF. They didn’t even come with salt?! Nope. First and last time.
Jemima: Considering how pricey Nando’s is, these chips are pretty rank. Too oily, slightly soggy, and absolutely no seasoning. Keep them.
Michelle: These chips were… different. While they had some seasoning which made them a lil' spicy, I think I prefer corn chips and guac. Soz not soz.
Tahlia: I love a bit of paprika and seasoning with a kick, but these chips had a very odd aftertaste that I couldn’t quite get past.
Jemima: I am A FAN of these chips. I am still confused that GYG are offering fries, but I am all about this seasoning. They also actually taste like real potatoes, not mass-produced chemicals.
Michelle: I totally forgot Hungry Jack's went from thin to thick cut chips, and I still mourn the loss. Plus the fact that this large is more like a medium is quite depressing.
Tahlia: I’m here for the Hungry Jack’s new(ish) fries. I like a thicker chip (heh), and the seasoning is also better than what it used to be when they were thinner. But after seeing how dismal their large size is, they’re not my top pick.
Jemima: Hungry Jack's chips are FINE. Just like Hungry Jack’s itself is FINE. I’d only go there when there’s no Macca’s around, which is honestly such a rare occurrence. Basically only when you fly domestic out of the shitty terminal at Sydney airport.
Michelle: KFC have some bomb-ass chips, but you have to get them fresh. When they’re soggy, they go limp and weird, but look, that chicken salt flavour is just really something else.
Tahlia: KFC can kinda be hit and miss. Their flavouring is one of the best in the biz and their large size is as big as my head, but sometimes their chips are soggy AF. Their chips are better than Macca’s though, don’t @ me.
Jemima: I have eaten KFC once in my life, and it made me sick. I’ve heard very good things about the chips though, so I had high hopes. They’re really similar to a Hungry Jack’s chip, although they definitely have a faint flavour of chicken in there. As far as chips go, they’re fine, but nowhere near the best.
Michelle: It’s a fact that the best tasting part of a Macca's run is picking out the stragglers left in the bag. Plus no one does thin cut better than Macca’s. Hell, no one else does thin cut at all anymore (I’m looking at you Hungry Jack's).
Tahlia: I nearly got kicked out of participating in this post because I said Hungry Jacks' chips were better than Maccas'. I stand by it. Hit me up with a Macca's meal at 2am when I'm in need of a drunk feed, but other than that, Macca’s fries aren’t my first choice. They’re only great when they’re REALLY fresh and hot.
Jemima: Macca’s chips are the standard. I usually am all about a thick, potato-ey fry, but Macca’s is the only time I’ll accept a shoestring. When the chips are good, oh boy are they good. But every so often, maybe 1/10 of the time, you’ll get a dud batch that are soggy or cold. Soggy, thin chips, are not a vibe.
Michelle: I don’t consider Grill’d to be fast food but everyone else does, so here we are. They’re fancy, and there’s a reason you don’t get sloshed and try to hit up a Grill’d at 3am. Even though you can really see and taste their seasoning, I’m a simple gal who just wants her chicken salt.
Tahlia: Grill’d always feels like you’re eating a “healthier” chip which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but also if I want to be eating hot chips load me the fuck up on the chicken salt fam. But I’ve never had a soggy, gross chip from Grill’d so they get points there.
Jemima: Grill’d chips are perfect for when you want a fancy option. Rosemary salt is deluxe AF, and I’m a fan of a flat, wide chip. They’re much more potato-ey than their “unhealthy” fast food counterparts. If I was just craving chips, I’d never hit up Grill’d. But they go well with their burgers, I’ll give ‘em that.
Michelle: Damn fam, Tahlia is always going on about how good Red Rooster chips are and I just never gave her the time of day. But I'll give her this, they're pretty good. Though, they don't really have much crunch and kinda taste a bit like sticks of mashed potato.
Tahlia: Red Rooster is absolutely the most underrated fast food store in Australia, and houses my FAVOURITE hangover meal (the Rippa sub FYI). Their chips are delish.
Jemima: I have never been to a Red Rooster in my life, because there are hardly any left near the city. These were surprisingly good, and very similar to Oporto. They’re soft and very potato-ey, a real vibe.
Michelle: Wow. Those were some GOOD chips. There was a lot of sweat in that box by the time I got to it but damn. They were still fire. That chicken salt flavour is really on some other level.
Tahlia: I’ve NEVER had a bad chip from Oporto. Good seasoning, good size, delicious taste. There is nothing wrong going on here.
Jemima: Oporto chips are so damn good. The perfect thickness, the perfect amount of fried, and delicious seasoning that fills my heart with joy. I kept eating these even when they were cold and soggy and I could feel my arteries clogging up.
