7 Reasons Why Gender Roles Are Dumb

The old-fashioned way of thinking is pretty dumb. Men should be able to be cheerleaders and women should be able to be soldiers. Lets stop gender roles together!

First off, what are gender roles?

Our society has us believing certain things men and women can and cannot do. Women shouldn't be soldiers or police officers or presidents. Men can't be cheerleaders, theatrical actors, or house husbands. It's all nonsense.

1. Are we in the 50's?

I mean c'mon, it's 2015. We live in a world where anything is possible. Humans have been on the moon, yet women are still expected to stay at home while men bring home the bacon.

2. Be who you want to be... or nah?

They tell you from an early age, "Be who you want be, it's your life." Yet most of us are afraid of our kids playing with the "wrong" toys or being in the "wrong" sports or clubs. Yeah, no time for being you with gender roles in play.

3. The emotionless cry

Masculinity is a joke.

4. Gender Identity

Not everyone in this world identifies with their gender. It's not fair to those people to suggest all men should be the same or all women should be the same. We are all different and gender shouldn't define who we are as humans.

5. Gender equality is lost

When we say men have to be a certain way and women have to be a certain way, we entertain the idea that men and women are not equal. If men and women are not equal, then we are saying one gender has to be better. That itself, is cause for concern.

6. We fall into ruts

If men and women could only do things men and women do, respectively, we would be limited in our lives. Men couldn't watch romantic comedies and women couldn't play tough football. How boring.

7. Pizza rolls, not gender roles

We shouldn't define who we are with the gender we were born as. Every person is different and it is our responsibility in life to find out what we like to do in life, regardless of gender. Use #NoGenderRoles to tweet out your support!
