An instructor of mine told me that I didn’t look like the other “black people;” that I had a red tint to my skin. I guess she thought she was paying me a compliment. The brainwashing effect has us believing that, the more melanin in us, the less profound we are. Yet, I admire those people of “color” who a rich in melanin, like Lupita Nyong’o, whose skin is so beautiful and smooth looking. Yet, even with her rich melanin flavor, she’s not black. I’ve never met a black person.
