Do you know what I hope? I hope Brock Turner never enjoys a steak again. I hope he has to endure 20 minute increments of unconscious rape for the next three months and, after every 20 minutes of "action", I hope he has to wake up with the gut-wrenching, horrifying realization that he has no idea what happened to him, how, or by whom. I hope his rapists tell him that he wanted it. That he liked it. That he has to endure question after question about what he was wearing, how he was acting, what he was drinking, and why he put himself in that situation.I hope he calls his father sobbing every. single. time. I hope each rapist gets a chance to tell Brock's father not to worry, that it's just a little "action" and, like "alcohol consumption and sexual promiscuity", these are the "unfortunate results" of committing too much rape. I hope he has to take a handful of pills and get shots to prevent STDs and HIV, which make him even more ill. I hope he is disgusted by his own body. That he fears what may be lurking undetected. I hope he feels an underlying sense of impending doom and dread with every second of the 6 months he has to wait to take a follow up HIV test, and that he worries himself sick while waiting for the results. I hope he loses all sense of trust, becoming hypervigilant, paranoid, and genuinely exhausted. I hope he reports each rape and is revictimized by the insanely invasive, heartbreaking rape kit examination, pictures and all, and that he spends hours telling his story over and over again with the implication that maybe he just forgot he gave consent. I mean, he was still breathing while it happened, right? Perhaps he forgot he enjoyed it. I hope when that's done, he has to endure the legal system for years, as a true victim, and that he never gets justice. Moreover, after watching the justice system fail his son, I hope Brock's father chokes on a thoroughly karmic-infused pretzel.Until then, I will take solace in knowing this conversation is happening. That there's a chance rape culture will be obliterated by a generation who teaches all of their children that rape, in any form and however defined, is wrong. #rapistscauserape #educateourchildren
