15 Female Video Game Protagonists To Look Forward To From E3 2015

Females are strong as hell!

1. Emily Kaldwin (Dishonored 2)

God save the Queen. Chloe Grace Moretz's creepy/cute princess from the first game is back as a fierce assassin. Sure, you can play as Corvo again, but why would you want to?

2. Aloy (Horizon: Zero Dawn)

Guerrilla Games allegedly had to fight to secure a female protagonist for their upcoming post-post-apocalyptic epic. Hopefully the positive reactions to the bow-wielding heroine, Aloy, will convince them to take more "risks."

3. Faith (Mirror's Edge Catalyst)

Are you ready to try and miserably fail at more parkour? Luckily, Faith (one of the only high-profile women of color protagonists at E3) will be a badass regardless of how many times you die.

4. Lara Croft (Rise of the Tomb Raider)

Crystal Dynamics has brought the focus of Rise of the Tomb Raider back around to, well, tomb raiding, meaning the iconic Lara Croft's in for less combat and more grave-robbing — and in weather appropriate clothing, no less!

5. Evie Frye (Assassin's Creed Syndicate)

One half of a playable brother-sister duo, Evie Frye is a bit of an anomaly. She's a woman, and the protagonist of a main entry in the Assassin's Creed series. As it turns out, women aren't that hard to animate.

6. Joule (ReCore)

The scrappy protagonist of ReCore certainly wouldn't look out of place in the Star Wars universe, but she's got one thing the Rebels don't: an adorable robot puppy.

7. Protagonist (NieR 2)

This mysterious lady is allegedly one of three player characters available in NieR 2. Based on her involvement in the debut trailer, she seems pretty freakin' important — and pretty freakin' stylish. I mean, not everyone can pull off white hair.

8. Senua (Hellblade)

Hellblade's exploration of mental illness could be handled excellently or terribly, but Senua herself seems like a worthy protagonist. Plus, she clearly subscribes to the Imperator Furiosa School of Cosmetics, and who doesn't love that?

9. Inga, Glory, Celeste, Evienne, and Winter (Fable Legends)

Fable Legends looks like a lot of silly fun, but the best part is that there are an equal amount of female and male playable characters. No Smurfettes here!

10. Tracer, Zarya, Widowmaker, Pharah, Mercy, and Symmetra (Overwatch)

Props to Overwatch for realizing that women too can have ridiculously cool, bulky, impratical armor. It's all I've ever really wanted.

11. Every Female Battleborn (Battleborn)

2K Games/Gearbox Software

There are 25 characters available in Battleborn, and no doubt the rest of the heroines will be just as rad as the already revealed Thorn, Reyna, Phoebe, and Orendi — or at least as awesomely designed.

12. Imani (Gigantic)

Imani isn't actually the only playable heroine in Gigantic, but she is the perfect representation for how cool the game's group of ladies are, which is really flippin' cool.

13. Rae (Beyond Eyes)

The heroine of Beyond Eyes is Rae, a blind girl who creates her own perception of the world based on what she hears, touches, and remembers. Disability as gameplay is always tricky, but Beyond Eyes looks like it could be an emotional experience.

14. Ashlyn (HUSH: Into the Darkness)

Childhood is scary. So are abandoned orphanages. You'll face both as plucky little girl Ashlyn in this spooky platformer.

15. Your Created Female Character (Fallout 4, Mass Effect Andromeda, Call of Duty: Black-Ops 3)

With character customization, you're free to make your lady vault inhabitant, space marine, or Black Ops soldier in your own image. Or y'know, the image of whomever you choose. Just make her awesome.
