On my way from LA to San Francisco, I took the 405 and arrived 6 hours later. Realizing I had no where urgent to be on Monday, I took the Pacific Coast Highway instead of the 405 on my way back to LA. I left San Fran at 6:30 AM and pulled into my parking spot in Santa Monica 12 hours, four pit stops, 400 miles, an audio book (B.J Novak's "One More Thing"), and maybe just 50 "Story of My Life" plays later. Though I went on a bit of an instagram and sour gummies binge, taking the long route home helped me realize that I am programmed to want to get to the next destination so quickly that I sometimes zoom through the most beautiful parts of the journey or take shortcuts around them without even realizing what I am missing.
