These Artists Are Challenging Every Stereotype About Hispanic Art

Vibrant colors, flowers and skulls? Nope, scroll down, amigo.

Skulls and flowers are awesome. And Frida Khalo was too. But they are also a few of the stereotypes invading the world of Hispanic art.

Stereotypes limit the opportunities young Hispanics get to show the vibrancy and energy of their work. Luckily, Frida here will introduce us to a list of artworks that will quickly eliminate misconceptions and flirt with our artistic eye.

Hernan Alaya: "We've been represented as motionless."

Abraham Lule: "Having something to say is King, while Style is Queen, and to do it with you own hands is the crown of the both."

Hernan Ramos: "I focus on the day-to-day trying to show common complaints in graphically appealing ways."

Gabriela Molano: "I'm impressed by how happiness and love impregnates people’s attitudes in Latin America."

Sonia Lazo: "Emotional and imperfect, vulnerable and human."

Rodrigo Stipkovic: "I traffic between art and design raising human and social issues, proposing simple and minimalist solutions to the everyday problems of people."

Toñito Balderrama: "Every now and then I’m presented with the opportunity to work without guidelines. It is then when I truly enjoy what I do."

Daniela Flores: "I even have business cards with a big “HEY!" printed all over them. Because what screams personality more than a gigantic “HEY!”, right?"

Want more? Great! There will be more, much more.
