University Student Has The Best Way To Shut Down Homophobic Preacher

Who knew her bagpipe skills would come this handy?

FGCU senior, Brice Ehmig, has had it.

When a "preacher" came on to her campus with a megaphone and started preaching hate and saying homophobic and misogynistic things directed toward fellow students and herself—she knew she had to take action.

Her friend texted her letting her know the preacher (who comes to campus regularly) was there. We like to imagine the conversation went something like this:

Brice arrived on campus, armed with her bagpipes.

She's been playing bagpipes since she was 11.

She played her bagpipes while the preacher continued to spew his message on the megaphone, but she was able to drown him out.

According to, Eagle News, the school's newspaper, "The preacher has directed hate-speech towards Ehmig as she's walked on campus holding hands with her girlfriend and she has heard him say negative things to girls wearing short shorts or people who are overweight."

University police are not allowed to do anything about the hateful preacher because he is on public ground and exercising his right of free speech.

Brice disagrees, "He's not exercising freedom of speech; he's abusing it. I don't think he should get kicked off campus – he has the right to be there just as much as I do, but he says not nice things, and that's not okay. And I don't think the bullhorn is necessary. It really just causes interruption."

Here's the video of Brice in action.

Although she has gotten some backlash, most people are praising her for her actions.

I dont how old it is but I applaude @briceehmig for standing up 2 hateful obnoxious words by #bagpipeingthehateaway #welldone 😁

Priceless trolling of an anti-rights bigot--good on you, Brice Ehmig: https://t.co/4fWh7uYlag
