5 Reasons That Being Married Is Just Like Dating But Way Cooler

Dating was fun. But marriage is awesome.

This old proverb rings true. When dating, you were all about sharing. Now you're married. You are now a proud co-owner of all of his baseball cards that he's collected since he was 8 which are probably worth some money now (even though, like, you promised you won't even think about selling them.) And that rich great aunt she has that gets her awesomely expensive presents every Christmas? Yeah, you're her nephew now too. Boom.

2. You still talk about future plans, but now you do it with more certainty.

When you were first dating, you didn't want to scare each other off with talks of the future. Any talk of long term commitment that extended past, oh, say 3 weeks was frightening. You lived in constant fear of coming across as too clingy, or desperate. But slowly, one of you finally breached the subject of maybe, possibly, sorta gonna get married some day. Slowly you tread into the dangerous waters of The Future. Now that you're married, you can totally feel comfortable talking about long term plans. Like in 3 years you're ready to have kids, or next month you're going to take that couples yoga class together, and how in 10 years you want to renew your wedding vows in front of Hogwarts castle at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter.

Oh, just me?

3. You still fight about the little things, but now you're quicker to forgive each other.

You might find yourselves fighting about small things, like the right way to put the forks in the dishwasher (prong side down ALWAYS), and how you already pre-ordered the new Call of Duty so you can't just not buy it now and how you just HAVE to go to the midnight release. But you've realized it's miserable living with someone that you're mad at, and what's really the big deal about the way you put the forks in the dishwasher anyway? (Unless, of course, you trip and fall headfirst into the open dishwasher and you get stabbed by a fork. In that case I TOLD YOU SO).

And it's easier to have make-up sex when you already live together, amiright?

4. Now you have a roommate. And they're your best friend.

5. For some reason you don't go out on as many dates, but that makes them much more special when they do happen.

You realize quickly in marriage that you don't always need to leave the house to have a date together. Sometimes it's just as nice to share a glass (ahem, bottle) of wine while laughing together over an episode of Parks and Recreation in your comfiest clothes. On the rare occasion that you do clean up and spend a weekend evening out on the town, it feels much more special than it did during your courtship. You're married. You're a couple. And you want to show off that hottie that you get to call your spouse.

Dating was fun, but being married is way cooler. It's kind of the same, like, you both still spend your evenings playing video games together. And your dinner of choice is still Easy Mac. But it's way cooler because now you both wear rings and you file joint taxes and stuff.
