5 Questions/Statements That Hispanics Don't Wanna Hear

These are 5 things people have assumed or asked when they found out I was Puerto Rican. I know every Hispanic person, no matter what you are, has heard this at some point in their life.

1. "So do you speak Puerto Rican?"

I'm sorry do you mean Spanish? People from Puerto Rico, Mexico, Spain, Dominican Republic, etc all speak Spanish. They do not have their own language. Some Spanish words may mean one thing to a P.R and mean something completely different to a Mexican, but at the end of the day, we all speak Spanish.

2. "Oh that's like Dominican right?"

.......

You wanna piss a Hispanic off, call them something they're not, or tell them it's the same thing. That's like me saying because you're German that's the same thing as Polish. That's just not correct.

3. "Oh so can you cook Spanish food? I love it. I go to Taco Bell all the time!"

... Really?

4. ...But You don't look Spanish.

And what does Spanish or Puerto Rican look like? We do not all have dark wavy hair, caramel skin and a big booty. Sorry bout it.

5. You must be a great dancer!

Yes, I am a dancer, but I know plenty of Hispanics with two left feet/ no rhythm. Don't assume we all come out of the womb salsa dancing.
