    A French Artist In 1889 Thought We'd Live In The Skies And Oceans By 2000

    And it's amazing.

    In 1889, French artists Jean-Marc Côté and his colleagues released a series of postcards illustrating what they believed 2000 would look like.

    Many of their photos consist of flying machines, including aero cabs!

    And with flying cars come flying police superheroes...

    ...and flying firemen!

    In fact, if we can fly everywhere, why not rob giant birds' nests?

    But when we're not in the air, we're in the sea, fishing for seagulls.

    We'll take whale buses to our next mermaid destination.

    Seahorses will have mutated into horrifying beasts.

    And then we play croquet in the gulf stream?

    Although we don't live above the clouds or with giant seahorses, at least he got one thing right...
