29 Things You Probably Never Knew About "Scrubs"

    Hooch actually killed someone?!

    1. The characters of Dr. Molly Clock, J.D., and Turk are based on these three real doctors, pictured here. Dr. Dolly Klock and Dr. Jon Doris even served as medical advisers for the show.

    2. The X-ray in the intro was backward for the first five seasons.

    3. Elizabeth Banks' character, Dr. Kim Briggs, finally fixed the error at the end of the fifth season.

    4. The stunt doubles who filmed the bungee jump for J.D. and Elliot met while filming the scene, became a couple, and today they're happily married.

    5. Sarah Chalke (Elliot Reed) played one of Roseanne's daughters.

    6. Phill Lewis, who plays Hooch ("Hooch is crazy!"), really did kill someone (while driving drunk), and served time in prison.

    7. The gag where Dr. Cox (John C. McGinley) calls J.D. by girls' names comes from real life. McGinley actually does it to his buddy, John Cusack.

    8. The episode "My Fault" (Season 3) is an homage to the film The Sixth Sense.

    9. In the episode, Ben — the brother of Dr. Cox's wife, Jordan — always has his camera handy. It's only at the end, when Cox learns that Ben is dead, that his camera is gone.

    10. A strange rumor was started that the funeral scene from that episode was lifted from Tintin comics, but it ended up being fake.

    11. Ted has a picture of his mother put in his office. The woman in the picture is actually the mother of the actor who plays Ted.

    12. Did you know that John C. McGinley also appeared in Wall Street and Platoon?

    13. At the beginning of the series, Colonel Doctor, Snoop Dogg Resident, and Dr. Beardface were only meant to be extras. But the cast and crew could never remember the characters' names, and when their set nicknames stuck, they were incorporated into the show.

    14. Sacred Heart was actually a real hospital — the North Hollywood Medical Center in Los Angeles.

    15. Sadly, the vacant building was torn down in 2011.

    16. The building also makes a brief appearance in the 2002 Britney Spears film Crossroads.

    17. Janitor has a name! It's Glenn Mathews and he was only supposed to appear in the pilot episode.

    18. And yes, Neil Flynn had a supporting role in Harrison Ford film The Fugitive.

    19. Christa Miller, who played Jordan Sullivan on the show, is the wife of Scrubs creator Bill Lawrence.

    20. No one character appears in every single episode, but Dr. Cox and Turk show up in the most. They're both in all but three episodes.

    21. In the German-language version of the show, Elliot speaks Dutch as a second language instead of German.

    22. In the Spanish-language version of the show, Carla speaks Italian as a second language instead of Spanish.

    23. Dr. Cox can be seen wearing a blue and yellow rubber wristband in some episodes. John C. McGinley wore it to draw attention to Buddy Walk, an organization dedicated to Down syndrome awareness.

    24. Ted's a cappella band, "The Worthless Peons," actually exists. The real group is called "The Blanks."

    25. J.D.'s father was supposed to be a regular on the series. Unfortunately, the character died after John Ritter died in 2003.

    26. You may have recognized the Janitor's father from Full Metal Jacket. Ronald Lee Ermey played Gunnery Sergeant Hartman in that film.

    27. Dr. Cox's infamous nose flick was done in homage to the classic film The Sting, starring Paul Newman and Robert Redford.

    28. Ever wonder what Turk and Carla's daughter Isabella ("Izzy") looks like now?
